My Favorite Christmas Tree Ornament.

This is my favorite Christmas tree ornament. It’s not very fancy — just a ceramic Santa Claus — but it is very special to me.

It’s over 30 years old now and it hasn’t cracked or chipped, even though it is fragile. I guard it with an eagle-eye, making sure that it’s secure on the tree. When we store it away, it is wrapped in tissue paper and then placed in a sturdy box.

Why is this so special to me? Because I made it. I bought the plain, white ceramic piece, carefully painted it, varnished it and threaded a hook through it. It reminds me of what is pure and simple about the holiday; and it reminds me what I can do myself to make sure it stays that way.

The holiday does not come in a box. It does not come from a store or from a website. It come from the heart.

This simple ornament was made with love, and that is why it is my favorite. What’s yours?

  1. That’s so cool that you made it! I don’t have a Christmas tree but I have hung ornaments around my apartment and my favourite is a wooden nutcracker looking man with a string attached to him. When you pull his string his arms and legs move so it’s like he is dancing or jumping. I like this ornament because it was my Grandma’s and I loved playing with it when I was a kid.

  2. MY favorite is a Santa made out of a baby food jar that our daughter made when she was in kindergarden— that has been a lot of years ago now!!! 🙂

My favorite “ornament” is hearing great memories like yours, Joe. Hearing how people keep the holiday close to heart really brightens up my holiday.
    Thanks,
    Jim
