I’m 45 and you my first agoraphobic I’ve ever run across! I have never read about or met anyone else that has this!! I swear, I thought I was the only one on the planet with this! I’m not happy that you have it and have suffered, but I feel so much better knowing I am truly not the only one. I’m looking forward to reading your posts 🙂
Thank you very much for commenting — you have no idea how good it makes me feel to think that maybe I can offer help or advice to someone.
I know how difficult this is on a daily basis. I will try my best to help. Thanks again! 🙂
Joe and Audrey — you are not alone. These feelings are something few others are willing to accept, and none seem to really understand. I managed to move across the country, just me and two cats… and I did it twice. But “home” was in the car with me. A 38 hour drive [almost coast-to-coast] was one thing, because “home” was with me. However, a 3 mile drive for some ordinary task… that’s an entirely different matter.
I understand what you mean; and now that I have started to blog and to share this with the others in my life, I get so many questions and puzzled looks from people who just don’t understand what I have to go through. Thank you for your comment! 🙂
I once saw a funny picture of a cow at the ocean, with a caption,
“Do one thing every day that scares you. — Eleanor Roosevelt”
It had quite an impact on me then. I still encourage myself with that quote and the thought of that cow. Maybe it will have a positive effect on someone else too. Here it is: http://teagansbooks.wordpress.com/2013/06/23/facing-fear/
Thank you so much! Funny thing that you should talk about “being scared” because when I don’t have some of that element in my life — at least a few butterflies in my stomach — then I know that I am not challenging myself enough, and I need to move out of my comfort zone and try something new.
Joe: I love your blog and what you are doing to help other people with agoraphobia. I’ve nominated you for a Liebster Award. To claim it, go to http://jsherwinblog.wordpress.com. Congratulations! Jennie
